Mississippi Going North
Published in School & Library Binding by Albert Whitman & Co (October, 1996)
Average review score:

A wonderful journey on the North flowing Mississippi RiverSanna Baker does a marvelous job describing a part of the Mississippi River few people ever hear or know about. Baker's description makes you feel as if you are actually traveling with her on her journey. The illustrations bring Baker's story to life. The book is also a good source of factual information and Indian folklore. a wonderful resource for Social Studies teachers!

Patch and the Rabbits
Published in Hardcover by Orchard Books (March, 2000)
Average review score:

Not Just for EasterWe put this book in our two-year-old daughter's Easter basket, but it would be a fun gift any time. The storyline is cute--everyone knows dogs love to chase rabbits!--& the rabbits' oneupsdogship, as shown in the illustrations, is funny for both children & adults. The pull-the-tabs feature definitely adds to the story, especially when Patch finds an unexpected surprise in the rabbit hole & when he dreams of chasing rabbits. The illustrations are bright without being gaudy & appeal to both my daughter & me. I did think that a page of the story seemed to be out of order, but figured it was due to the desire to keep all the pull-tabs on the right-hand pages. But...that does make it hard for lefties to move the tabs! All in all, though, a fun book, & I'd recommend it for anyone.

Quick and Easy Vests & Jackets: Creative Fashions to Sew
Published in Hardcover by Lark Books (February, 1999)
Average review score:

Lots of unique designs w/ an interesting time line for sew.I have many sewing books, this is my first by this author. By having seen the book I am impressed with the way she addresses several important issues regarding sewing besides just the exact Title of the book. I deducted 1 star for lack of ANY kind of pattern layout but commend the way it is done. I like seeing the work of the various artists she used and the idea of her timeline suggestions. I am anxious to start one of these projects and try it in the time she allots and see how I do comparitively. I am also very pleased to find a book about a subject that is so current and a type of sewing that is extremely popular right now, so one can feel quite chic in a 'modern' style garment. The author also has several styles included that will be useful for many years and combine with current wardrobe selections.

Spectacular Australia (Spectacular Series)
Published in Hardcover by Hugh Lauter Levin Associates (30 November, 2000)
Average review score:

Can't wait to travel down under...Very complete overview of Australia, which is not realy a country, but an entire continent, with various climates and landscapes. Phillip Mathews has done a great job describing the history, the people and nature of this country, and the accompanying photos are excellent. Some of the fold-out panoramas are nearly three feet wide, and vividly sharp. The book also includes a large number of areal shots, which give an unusual view of some of the remote areas, which are still impenetrable for the regular visitor.
Going through the book, you're realy tempted to jump on a plane to this great country down under...
This book contains many color plates of Lilla Cabot Perry's work: her portraits of her husband and three daughters, and her self portraits, as well as her landscapes. Ironically, she (like Sargent and others) were glad to be able to stop painting portraits and concentrate on landscapes. The examples in this book suggest that the portraits were by far the best of Perry's work.
Good book for those interested in Impressionism or women painters at the turn of the century.
